cultural sociologist & scholar of violence, mass media, and new/digital media
I'm a Professor of Sociology at West Chester University of Pennsylvania.
A sociologist of culture and media, I mainly apply symbolic interactionist and social constructionist perspectives to studies in three primary areas: the sociocultural contexts of violence, mass media effects and processes, and the relationship between new/digital media technologies and sociocultural change. I received my Ph.D. in sociology from the University of Tennessee and M.A. in journalism and mass communication from the University of Georgia's Grady College, and I previously worked as a print and online journalist for nearly a decade.
